Head of the Systems Immunology Lab within the Department of Pathology at the School of Medicine
Dr. Asaf Madi is the head of the Systems Immunology Lab within the Department of Pathology at the School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. He earned his Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University under the mentorship of Prof. Eshel Ben Jacob (Physics) and Prof. Irun Cohen (Immunology) from the Weizmann Institute of Science. During his doctoral studies, he focused on investigating the antibody repertoire of mothers and newborns using antigen-chip technology. Following his Ph.D., Madi pursued a postdoctoral fellowship with the late Nir Friedman at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he explored T cell repertoires. His research revealed insights into the extent of public TCRs and identified shared CDR3 sequences between mice and humans, shedding light on their association with self-antigens. Dr. Madi then moved to Boston for a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School with Prof. Vijay Kuchroo and at the Broad Institute with Prof. Aviv Regev. During this time, he delved into T cell differentiation, focusing on Tr1 cells, Th17 cells, and tumor immunology. Presently, Dr. Madi's research interests center on systems immunology, with a primary emphasis on autoimmunity and tumor immunology.
